Las raíces de mangle representan un sitio de suma importancia para refugio de juveniles del mero Goliat (Epinephelus itajara) en las costa de Florida. Esta especie que agrega para reproducirse es el mero más grande del mundo, alcanzando los 400 kg, y es considerada como en peligro por la Lista Roja de Especies Amenazadas. Frías-Torres (2006) hizo un estudio para determinar la distribución, abundancia y uso de hábitat de juveniles de esta especie en Florida.

Mangrove prop-roots represent a very important refuge for juveniles of Goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara) in Florida coasts. This aggregating grouper species is the largest of the world, reaching 400 kg, and it is considered endangered by the Red List of Threatened Species. Frias-Torres (2006) made a study for determining the distribution, abundance and habitat use of juveniles of this species in Florida.
