Se acerca la fecha del comienzo de la Reunión del Instituto de Pesquerías del Golfo y del Caribe, GCFI, a celebrarse en el Hotel San Juan en Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. El martes 2 de noviembre, a partir de las 17:30, se llevará a cabo un taller titulado: “Agregaciones de desove de peces, llevando la extensión más allá”, moderada por Martin Russell de SCRFA. El propósito de este taller de 2 horas es desarrollar una estrategia de extensión para mejorar la implementación y efectividad del manejo y métodos de protección para las agregaciones de desove de peces en el Caribe.

La sexahésima tercera (63ra) reunión anual del ‘Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute’ (GCFI) se llevará a cabo en El San Juan Hotel & Casino, en San Juan, Puerto Rico la primera semana de noviembre del 2010. En esta reunión se agregan pescadores, investigadores, manejadores y otros usuarios de los recursos pesqueros del área geográfica del Golfo de Mexico y el Caribe.  De los varios temas pesqueros que se discuten en esta conferencia de 4 días se incluye una sesión de Biología, Ecología y Evaluación de Peces de Arrecife que alberga dos temas de interés para nuestro publico: Agregaciones Reproductivas de Peces y Hábitat Esenciales para Peces. Otras sesiones especiales que se llevarán a cabo lo son:

Manejo de los ecosistemas arrecifales para pesquerías sostenibles

Nuevas y emergentes tecnologías para monitorear la pesquería y los hábitats

Control y manejo del invasor Pez León

La sesión de carteles y la recepción, se llevarán a cabo la noche del 2 de Noviembre 2010.

El último día para inscripciones tempranas a través de la Internet es el 15 de Septiembre. El costo de la inscripción temprana es US$ 150 (US$ 75 para estudiantes). El costo de la inscripción después del 15 de Septiembre será de US$ 200 (US$ 85 para estudiantes). El costo de la inscripción en el lugar de la conferencia (San Juan, Puerto Rico) será de US$ 225.

Esperamos que este foro sirva para la discusión de temas de interés de las Agregaciones de Desove de Peces y las pesquerías de la región.

Un grupo de investigadores se reunió en La Paz, Baja California Sur, México, el 28 de Octubre de 2008 como una iniciativa de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, la Institución Oceanográfica Scripps (California) y Pronatura Noroeste AC. La reunión fue encabezada por el Dr. Brad Erismann (Scripps Institution of Oceanography), Dr Octavio Aburto-Oropeza (Scripps Institution of Oceanography). El Dr Gustavo Danemann (Pronatura Noroeste AC) coordinó la actividad dentro del Congreso de la Sociedad Ictiológica Mexicana. La idea de la reunión fue presentar una perspectiva internacional sobre las agrupaciones de desove de peces a nivel mundial para abordar aspectos medulares sobre las agrupaciones de desove en México. Los investigadores invitados fueron la Dra Yvonne Sadovy (University of Hong Kong, y Society for the Conservation of Reef Fish Aggregations), Dr. Martin Russell (Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Australia, y Society for the Conservation of Reef Fish Aggregations), Dr. Matthew Craig (Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology), Dr. Will Heyman (Texas A & M University) y el Dr Alfonso Aguilar-Perera (Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán). Los productos de la reunión redundarán en la elaboración de un documento científico de divulgación y una publicación científica arbitrada sobre la situación de las agrupaciones de desove en México. A group of researchers held a meeting in La Paz, Baja California Sur, México on October 28, 2008, as part of an initiative by the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, Scripps Institution of Oceanography (California), and Pronatura Noroeste AC. The meeting was headed by Dr. Brad Erismann (Scripps Institution of Oceanography) and Dr Octavio Aburto-Oropeza (Scripps), while Dr Gustavo Danemann (PRONATURA Noroeste) hosted the event as part of the Symposium of the Mexican Society of Ichthyology. The idea was to present an international perspective on the fish spawning aggregations and address key aspects on fish spawning aggregations in México. The invited researchers were Dra Yvonne Sadovy (University of Hong Kong, and Society for the Conservation of Reef Fish Aggregations), Dr. Martin Russell (Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Australia, and Society for the Conservation of Reef Fish Aggregations), Dr. Matthew Craig (Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology), Dr. Will Heyman (Texas A & M University) and Dr Alfonso Aguilar-Perera (Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán). The products of the meeting will include a scientific document for divulgation and a scientific peer reviewed publication on the current situaton of the fish spawning aggregations in Mexico. Durante una reunión realizada el 22 y 23 de octubre de 2006 en Cozumel, México, la Iniciativa Internacional de Arrecifes Coralinos (ICRI por sus siglas en inglés) exhortó a las Redes Operacionales y Miembros del ICRI, así como también a otras organizaciones inter-gubernamentales, gubernamentales y no gubernamentales y el sector privado, a contribuir de manera apropiada para la implementación de proyectos, iniciativas y campañas que promuevan la conservación y manejo sostenible de las agregaciones reproductivas de peces arrecifales. During a meeting held in October 22 and 23 of 2006 in Cozumel, Mexico, the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) encouraged ICRI Operational Networks and Members, as well as other inter-governmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations and the private sector, to contribute to the implementation of the recommendation through appropriate projects, initiatives and campaigns that promote the conservation and sustainable management of reef fish spawning aggregations. Una sesión especial titulada “Biología de las Agregaciones Reproductivas” tendrá lugar el jueves 10 de Noviembre 2005 dentro de la reunion anual del Instituto de Pesquerías del Golfo y Caribe (Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Insitute) a celebrarse (7 al 11 de Noviembre) en San Andrés, Colombia. Entre los temas a tratarse se incluyen: monitoreo dependiente a la pesca, amenazas en poblaciones de meros debido a la pesca, condiciones de las agregaciones de Belice y Banco Chinchorro (México), estudios de migración y conservación usando MPAs. A special session entitled “Biology of Spawning Aggregations” will be held the November 10th, 2005, as part of the annual meeting of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (November 7-11) in San Andrés, Colombia.
